What Is S7 in Pre-Workout? The Nitric Oxide Ingredient Explained
Share
If you've read the label on a premium pre-workout and seen "S7™" listed at a small dose — often around 50–75mg — you might have wondered how something dosed in the double digits does anything. The answer is that S7 doesn't work by brute force. It works by switching on your body's own nitric oxide production.
What S7 actually is
S7 is a patented blend of seven plant-based ingredients: green coffee bean extract, green tea extract, turmeric, tart cherry, blueberry, broccoli, and kale. It's standardized and tested as a fixed combination, which is why it appears under one trademarked name rather than as seven separate line items.
The research behind S7 reports that it can increase the body's own (endogenous) nitric oxide by up to 230%. It does this as an antioxidant blend that supports your natural NO signaling — a fundamentally different mechanism from loading up on a precursor like citrulline.
S7 vs. citrulline: why not just use more citrulline?
Nitric oxide can be raised through more than one pathway, and they don't fully overlap:
- The L-arginine pathway — driven by L-Citrulline, which converts to arginine and feeds NO production directly. This is the workhorse, dosed in grams.
- The nitrate–nitrite–NO pathway — driven by dietary nitrates from sources like beet root powder. A separate route your body uses especially when oxygen is limited.
- Endogenous NO support — what S7 targets, helping your body produce and preserve its own nitric oxide.
Because these are independent, stacking them can produce a fuller, more sustained pump than maxing out any single one. It's the difference between shouting louder and opening three doors at once.
Does the small dose matter?
Yes — S7 is designed to be effective at 50–75mg. A bigger number wouldn't mean a better product here; it would mean the formulator didn't understand the ingredient. What matters is that it's the real, standardized S7 at its studied dose, listed transparently rather than buried in a proprietary blend.
How MAXX uses S7
MAXX Pre-Workout includes 75mg of S7™ alongside 4,800mg L-Citrulline and 500mg Beet Root Juice Powder — all three nitric oxide pathways, dosed transparently, in one scoop. Most pre-workouts hit one pathway. Some hit none. We built around all three.
